Chainsaw Warrior is a simple game to play, but incredibly difficult to win. If at first you don't succeed just play again! Each game you will be earning a score to go towards you league table results!
You as the Chainsaw Warrior have 120 turns in which to find and destroy Darkness. The amount of game turns remaining is shown as a clock counting down from 60 minutes to 0. Each turn is said to represent 30 seconds in the game. In the mean time you have to fight any monsters that cross your path.
KITOUT
In order to help you kill any thing you might meet you are given a chance to equip yourself with a selection of weapons. This is the first screen you'll come across when you start the game.
You have an Equipment Allowance (randomly generated) which you can spend on purchasing equipment. Different types of equipment cost different amounts. Click on the "take" button next to the type of equipment you would like to spend some of your points on, until you have used all your points. You can only carry 1 gun and 1 heavy weapon at any one time.
You will automatically be given a Laser Lance at the start of the game. This is the only weapon that can kill Darkness so look after it.
MAIN GAME WINDOW
Once you have used up all your Equipment Allowance the Main Game Window will load up automatically. This can take a while but give it time to finish.
Everything is straightforward enough, use the Action Buttons to Move on to a new location, Escape the Building, Wait, etc.
Information relating to you surroundings and well being will appear in the Information Window.
Your equipment is shown along the bottom of the screen. Clicking on an item of equipment will bring up a more detailed listing of the items attributes as well as any special options. It's recommended you read about all your equipment, the descriptions are not just there for fun.
COMBAT
Along the way you will meet many monsters which you will have to fight. During an encounter a popup window will ask you to choose what you want to do.
Your options are:
- Choose an attack method
- Choose an item to use in the attack (optional)
- Run away (if possible)
Other options might be available depending on your circumstances.
Hitting the "Do It" button will then determine the out come of the combat.
- WIN - If you win your opponent is dead and you are free to move on.
- LOSE - If they win you will take some damage and possibly be infected with Zombie venom! You will then have to fight them again before you can move on!
- DRAW - There is a chance that neither of you will over come the other and the round will be classed as a draw in which case you will have to fight each other again.
ESCAPING THE BUILDING
If during the game you lose your Laser Lance or become seriously wounded you can try to escape the building. This will cost you time (unless you have been fitted with a teleport implant) but will allow you a chance to get patched up and stock with weapons. Any demagnitised electrical equipment will also be fixed.
To try to escape click on the "Escape Building" action button in the Main Game Window.
THE END OF THE GAME
You can die in one of two grisly ways while hunting for Darkness' lair:
- If the Radiation Marker reaches your Endurance limit you die of Radiation Exposure.
- If your Wound marker reaches zero you will die of wound damage.
Furthermore, if your Venom marker reaches your Endurance limit you will pass from a living to an undead state and become a Zombie under the thrall of Darkness! The game will end in a victory for the forces of Evil as the clock ticks out New York's final minutes.
Chainsaw Warrior ends when one of the following things happens:
- Darkness is hit by a shot from the Laser Lance.
- You die, either from radiation sickness or from your wounds.
- You become a Zombie.
- You fail to find Darkness in 60 minutes (120 turns) and New York Implodes!
Killing Darkness and emerging alive is a full WIN - well done!
Killing both Darkness and yourself in a desperate suicide by using the Implosion Waistcoat is a DRAW, but earns you an honourable mention.
Dying, turning to a Zombie or running out of time is a LOSE.

That is about the most basic of info that you'll need to play the game. Anything else you need to play can be picked up along the way.
